The Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors is pleased to present the results of the 2012 Public Practice Examination (PPE) ‒ the final assessment of professional competence for candidates wishing to register as a Registered Auditor (RA) or Chartered Accountant (CA)(SA). The PPE was written on Wednesday, 21 November 2012 and of the 2288 candidates who wrote, 1746 passed resulting in a pass rate of 76% (74% in 2011). Candidates who attempted the PPE for the first time achieved a pass rate of 82% (80% in 2011).

ITS’s new mobile applications now enables students at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) to access academic and financial information on their mobile devices. The applications were released to a pilot group of students mid December 2012, and proved to be successful.

ITS Mobile provides students with access to their university data from a variety of mobile platforms, including tablets, smartphones and other cellphones. ITS Mobile gives 24x7 on demand access to available academic, financial and residential information to students, including exam timetable information, exam results, registration information, admission status, financial statements and financial aid information.

After a year of strategising, investing and team work, the top teams in the JSE/Liberty Investment Challenge 2012 have been announced. These top achievers have been awarded for their outstanding performance in the Investment Challenge at a prestigious awards ceremony held recently at the JSE, with winners receiving their well deserved prizes.

A selection of the top five high schools that have excelled in the Equity and Speculator Portfolios have been made and prizes amounting to R60 000 per portfolio awarded to the school teams. There were no winners in the Income Portfolio due to the teams’ failure to protect capital against inflation. For the winning university students, a top prize of an all expenses paid trip to the New York Stock Exchange plus R25 000 has also been awarded.
